Jacques Chemay (Belgium, 1938-1996). - Lot 79
Jacques Chemay (Belgium, 1938-1996). The heart of the city. 1969. Oil on canvas. Signed, dated and titled. Stamped by the artist on the stretcher. Dimensions : 162 x 130 cm. Labels from the Cologne Belgian Art Exhibition and the Bruges Triennial. Provenance: Le Miroir d'encre (Brussels). "Jacques Chemay, an adventurer, a worshipper of life and love, his paintings express the enjoyment of life, the budding, the blossoming, the explosion. They bring cheerfulness to any room where his bees come to forage. The Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium have exhibited his work. It's a real eye-opener in austere collections. He left Belgium to live first in Paris, then explored South America before returning to France, where he died at the age of 56."
