Jan Fabre (Belgium, 1958). - Lot 20
Jan Fabre (Belgium, 1958). Kasteel Tivoli. Autumn. 1991. Cibachrome. Size : 173 x 125 cm. Condition : Slight loss of material. Provenance : Geukens & De Vil Gallery (Knokke). Galerie Beaumont (Luxembourg). Ronny van de Velde (Antwerp). Born in Antwerp, Jan Fabre is one of Flanders' most renowned artists. Equally renowned as a sculptor and choreographer, he doesn't hesitate to create shocking works, such as "L'histoire des larmes", presented at the Avignon Festival in 2005, or his cat throw in the Antwerp City Hall in November 2012. "Jan Fabre. A sulphurous, controversial, excessive artist who was at one time ostracized by society. Here, one of the 4 seasons (autumn) doesn't hide the falling leaves. But it takes a trained eye to see the sheets of paper entirely covered in bic crumple and reveal the tour de force achieved by the artist: he didn't "biqué" the photos, but the entire Tivoli castle for a year. Cold and rain have taken their toll on this gala outfit. You have to look closely at the roof or the steps to see it. What's more, this photo is very harmonious."
